We are a happy, active couple of 33-year olds seeking housing in Corvallis in September. Our dream is to find a house in town and rent it, splitting the costs with other people who are interested in transforming it into a community home, a place where we create and collaborate together, making life more fun, economical, and beautiful than it is alone.
We are looking to find a group of like-minded people to undertake this adventure with us. Our ideal community would have people coming together somewhat frequently for shared meals, with each member cooking regularly on a rotating basis. We hope to share costs as much as possible through things like buying in bulk together, upcycling, repurposing, etc. We don't necessarily have to be best friends, but it would be great if we could also share some fun from time to time with things like movie screenings, music making, or hosting the occasional gathering.
We have both worked with and lived in intentional communities and developed some level of self-awareness and compassionate communication skills. We are looking for a similar commitment in our housemates. In our experience, having regular house meetings helps us stay straight on practical and financial issues and also grow as a community of respect and trust. We value listening, kindness, and integrity. We are far from perfect and mess up at times, and want to give you the space to be human as well. The important thing is to be able to communicate and remember that we're all doing the best we can in this world of complexity and ambiguity.
We love having a rich social life, but also value home as a sanctuary. We have a spiritual side that expresses itself through a need for silence, meditation, and contemplation. If you also have an interest in these things, groovy! We tend to turn in somewhat early and we're not looking for a party scene or a place where loud activities go on in the wee hours.
Care for our planet is a central value in our life. We seek to make a connection to the Earth wherever we live, in big ways and small. It would be wonderful if we found a place where we could have a little vegetable garden. It is important to us to reduce as much as possible the presence of unnecessary chemicals and artificial fragrances in the home. We strongly favor local and/or organic products whenever possible.
Here's a little info about ourselves:
MB - 33-years old, identifies as male, originally from the NYC area, now a devotee of Douglas-fir and sitka spruce forests. Looking into starting Masters work at OSU in ecology and anthropology. Loves reading, music, gardening, cooking, yoga, meditation, spending time in nature, and learning languages. Tall (increased fruit-picking ability).
MG - Also 33, identifies as female, originally from Italy. Studied primary education but burned out of a school system that treats kids as knowledge receptacles. Still loves children though, and often feels like one. Very crafty and practically-oriented. Loves to make things: soap, paper-crafts, pasta, bread, yogurt, and more. Loves to dance and listen to the body as a vehicle of intelligence. Tiny (can retrieve items from small spaces)
If you feel like this vision resonates with you, we would love to hear from you! Right now we're very far away from Corvallis due to recent travel and life disruption due to COVID-19. But in the meantime, we can connect over Zoom or Skype or WhatsApp or similar technologies and see if we might want to create a home together.
